2mm Hard Metric

ERmet 2mm H.M. connectors are a versatile, cost-effective board-to-backplane solution for today’s high performance, high density applications.

The ERmet 2mm H.M. family consists of 26 different modules types including, matching shrouds for midplane, stacking and cable applications, cable connectors, power modules, upper and lower ground return shields, coding keys and cable latches.

For circuit design versatility, the connectors are offered with a selection of contacts including signal, high power, high frequency, coaxial and fiber optic, and are available in 50mm and 25mm modules for end-to-end stacking, without contact loss. The dual beam female contact terminal design provides equalized signal path lengths which results in virtually identical propagation times for each contact row.

Right Angle Male Connector

The 2mm H.M. right angle male connector has been fully tested and meets mating and performance requirements of IEC 61076-4-101. It is ideal for extender card applications and reversed gender daughter-to-backplane applications.

The right angle male is manufactured for gas-tight, pressfit installation into a PCB and is designed to mate with 2mm H.M. right angle or vertical female connectors. This connector is available in 5 rows, with or without an upper shield and available in A, B25, B22, B19 and C modules.

Power Module

ERmet power module provides flexibility based on up to three connection levels.

The ERmet product range has been extended by a high performance power supply connector. The so-called ERmet Power Module is connection compatible to the industry standard, and provides for a secure power supply on printed circuit board panels whilst, e.g., other ERmet components are used to implement signal transmission. Fitting to the printed circuit board is effected by means of the proven press-fit technology. Individual contact tapping by means of trade standard 6.3 mm flat connector sockets is also possible.

In addition to the female connectors, there are also available four different male connectors featuring up to three connection levels in different configurations. The housing is made of PBT (grey, with glass fibre). For press-in, appropriate flat standard press-fitting tools are available. No special tools are required. The operating temperature is specified to be within the range -55 to 125ˇC. The minimum air and creep paths are specified to be 2.6 mm. The current capacity is specified as 9 A (20ˇC) per contact.

Shroud Selection Information

After the backplane has been designed and its final overall thickness is determined, it is often challenging to select the proper shroud. Furthermore, a design may specify sequential mating in the rear which requires several different terminal lengths.

To accommodate a wide range of backplane thicknesses and up to 3 rear mating levels, ERNI offers shrouds with 3 different base thicknesses. Which base thickness you select depends on both the backplane thickness and the number of terminal lengths you need. Note that due to the extremely long contact wipe length (2.5 mm), several different combinations of pin terminal lengths and shroud base thicknesses may be used to achieve the same functional result.

Dust and Protection Cover

The dust and protection cover for the male connectors for the ERmet™ 2.0 mm connector system acc. to IEC 61076-4-101 protect the mating area at the frontside of the backplane and what is more important the transfer area on the rearside of the backplane against damage of the contacts.

They are also a protection for transportation and against dust. The dust and protection cover is available in two versions for type A, B, AB and for type D, E, DE with or without grip.
